Dear Harmen:
Found you through Allan Lian's blog. About the pouring pots - could you tell me what the character is, and its meaning, that you refer to?
I know some Dutch having lived a bit in Amsterdam, but it has been thirty years since that time, so your Dutch pages are hard to understand.
Thanks, and best wishes.
Hi John,
You can find more about the character yi and it's presumed history here: http://yijing.nl/i_ching/origins/index.html. This is the history that I doubt at this moment, because there seems to be different usage between the 'sun/moon' yi and the 'pouring pots' yi. Something I am still investigating.
Best,
Harmen.
Harmen is so hysterical. I posted a few sentences for my own use, hiden way down in my list because I thought Harmen had the wrong mountain for the southern mountain. I was going to research it more and tell him. It was a couple of sentences, nothing more. You would think it was the Dead Sea Scrolls or something. He threatened me with reporting me to some agency as though everyone would spring to his aid. Naive, rule-bound thinking and oh, he was wrong about the mountain but he was never told, too arrogant.
Mary, your stupid responses never fail to amaze me. As said, you posted the complete article 'Review: The Bamboo Zhouyi from the State Chu Researches' on your message board without consulting me about it - not just 'a couple of sentences'. I contacted Yahoo about this, not 'some agency'. After that you removed the message, which is another way of saying that you admitted the copyright infringement.
Yes, you also copied and pasted the article about hexagram 46 completely without my permission, and also removed that afterwards. The messages that you post on your discussion list are full of stuff that you bluntly copy from other websites, books and articles, without ever mentioning your sources. About Qi Shan: it is mentioned in hexagram 46 and we know its location. It is still there where it always was.
I have had similar problems and I agree with you wholeheartedly. It is not ego or petty questions of ownership, it is a basic human courtesy, to ask permission to use the work and to acknowledge it with a link. Your writing here is fascinating, orginal, intelligent and worthwhile. Keep up the good work.
